Philadelphia October Weekend
I was in Philly for a conference this past weekend and was able to spend some time with Pack! On friday afternoon we met at Independence Mall and toured the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. Chuck the NPS tour guide did a good job giving a feel for the revolutionary attitude that led up to the Declaration of Independence.
Friday night we got great-discounted tickets for Beethoven’s Fidelio directed by Robert Driver, conducted by Corrado Rovaris and designed by Jun Kaneko. Kaneko is a Japanese-American sculptor who effectively used bizarrely colored and oddly designed costumes and very strong visual images that linger - such as the bold silhouettes of prisoners locked into cells in the first act and the rainbow streamers descending at the very end. The music was great with strong voices. we had a great time.
Saturday we raced to the Kimmel Center at 5:30 to purchase $10 tickets for subscription seats that had been turned in for resale. We ended up with the best seats in the house to enjoy David Kim's violin solos.
The Philadelphia Orchestra
Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, conductor
David Kim, violin
SCHUMANN Symphony No. 3 ("Rhenish")
CHAUSSON Poème, for violin and orchestra
RAVEL Tzigane, for violin and orchestra
FALLA Suite Nos. 1 and 2 from The Three-Cornered Hat
Pack has a job at a coffee shop on Walnut st. that is meant to have the best coffee in the city. Hopefully he will make enough money to feed himself.

One of my goals was to make it the whole visit without a parking ticket - I was successful with help from sometimes reluctant parking meter police and local residents who I forced to explain parking strategy. Now that I have the parking figured out I am hoping to visit more often - I didn't get to the art museum yet .

the fleas have fled>>>>>>>>??
Y Bueno,...
The fleas have fled from my rug,
Yup, I Raised the Flea village with a can of Raid.
Those fleas had a blood debt to pay
N' they paid it quietly.
Im glad it worked when it did cause my goodfriends annie n' serena werehere and i wouldnt want myfriends 2B flea bitten beacause of me..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7o-lXy7N0I&feature=related
concert and then i walked em' to the train this morning.
Ill be putting my room back together today along with some reading and sleeping/meditation.
IVe been thinking about going to the fairmount "Huge"park to dig up some small trees to put out onthe back patio. Maybe...It needs some vegetation. Although winters coming soon anyway...We'll see.
Imean i dont wanna pull an old Box/williams? woman and get nabbed for vegetation theft...so i might forget that whole shabang.
Y bueno...
that brings me up to this very present moment. Im warming up water for yerba mate...
I am teapotless and thermosless, a sad state o'fairs. Hah! one day i hope to have a thermos as nice as the one mag(thermosthief) has at her new studio. No art studio is complete without a stolen thermos, of that i'm Sure..
A MI HERMANA: keep that puppy. Imona find a new one on South St.
Ni importa, fue un pocito mucho (thermo) para mi del principio. jaja! pero en serio es mejor que lo tu tienes.

Tigers Soccer
It's that season again. U-6 soccer has started, and the Tigers(not my choice, I wanted great pumpkins, look at their uniforms) have played their first game. Coaching is a breeze with the juggernaut that is Kate and Connor. We play on Sat, practice with professional coaches on Fri, and I am having my own optional practice on Tues. Should be a good season.
Not every kid is on U-Tube for their opening soccer game,

Working At Dyberry Day Camp

I have been working at Dybery Day Camp, a camp for mentally disabled children ages 4 to 21, for the last 3 weeks. I am working closely with two children, the first whom, Sean, has aspergers, a disorder similar to to a mild case of Autism plus the person obsesses over one or two topics, in this case rocks and The United States Navy Fleet exclusively the U.S.S. Pennsylvania. Patrick, the other child I work with carries out long, in depth conversations with Master Chicken or one of his many other stuffed animals.
It is an interesting task trying to keep an eye on these two children at the same time. Sean sits in the sand box all day, looking for and inspecting rocks, while Patrick runs around the entire camp, talking to Master Chicken. I spend most of my day chasing Patrick around, stopping him from wandering out onto 191, and occasional checking in on Sean who is usually amassing large piles of rocks, sorted by size, color, and shape, or explaining the ballast tank system on the U.S.S. Pennsylvania to one of the non-verbal Down Syndrome kids.
So far my time at Dyberry has been a wonderful learning experience. It has boosted my confidence and ability to deal with socially awkward or difficult situations, whether they involve mentally disabled people or my family (sometimes i can't tell the difference.)

How Does my Garden Grow?
the lettus
and other greens are coming in spectarularly, we have to eat big salads everyday just
to keep up with it. we are also eating alot of steamed kale and collards as well
the tomatoes are flowering but no green tomatos yet. small jalapeno peppers are starting to form on the pepper plants and cilantro is sprouting, hopefuly later in the summer we will be making salsa!
the cabbage and broccoli have grown enormous though they seem to be attracting slugs and other pests. we have eaten the first of the beats and beat greens steamed and there are plenty more of them to come. the carrots are still tiny but I have hope for them yet. the bean plants are quite prolific this year, they are flowering right now and it looks like soon we will have loads of green beans. it has been a good summer for gardens so far in nepa with lots of rain but not too much. Stop by for a tour!! http://podcasts.nytimes.com/podcasts/2008/07/02/03well.mp3

hola,
Im just waking up after a smoky, semiconscious, period of laying in my living room. I listened to Steve Martins autobiography on audio book last night. I planned on listening to just one half but, unbeknownst to me, itunes had no such restraint in mind and was decidedly planning on playing both. Therefore after the first half was over, itunes, whose independent actions are beginning to scare, in fact it jumped the tracks and went right on with the remainder of the interestingly told story read b y the wild and crazy guy himself, keeping me awake until sunfish in the morning, O' sevenish. O' henry.
Love to send more afteriwakeupa bit.

Cape Cod happening
Happenings here on the cape include gearing up for the final soccer match. Kate and connor are playing in the Ymca league, coached by there dad, and while there is no score, kept, the Green Machine is undefeated, searching for the last victory to allow the Vince Lombardi of Centerville Ma to conclude his perfect season! Go green machine.
Other happenings include paddling my surfboard out to buoy at craigville beach, a round trip that used to take 35 minutes, and now has been shaved to 18 minutes. (google earth craigville beach 1/2 way out to spindle rock) It has gotten me in better touch with my board, and also been a good upper body workout. My paddle partner (female) kicks my butt, and has energized my upper body workout regime. Other than that trying to slow down and enjoy last summer without constraints of school, kate and connor entering kindergarten in the fall

Robin's June in Cherry Ridge
I am looking forward to doing more work on the OBAMA campaign - November is not that far away! This is a photo taken in Dunmore after I shook his hand. Mag has made some great t-shirts - we will try to add a pic of one.
We have had a beautiful start to our school vacation. It has been sunny and hot!!! Being home during the day has given me the chance to observe nature - butterflies, birds, turtles, and the new baby chicks. I plan on adding videos of my observations - using Curtis's new FLIP!!
If I can drum up some local interest I am considering starting a home-study bird course through Cornell University. It will be good preperation for our Wellfleet trip in August.
I have big gardening plans for this summer - it is meant to rain ALL next week so it will be a good time to dig up my VERY WEEDY flower bed - Mag's work in the front garden and Grandma's work in her front garden has inspired me.
